A572 steel

ASTM A572 Specification refers to High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel Plate for structural building, among the 5 steel grades of 42, 50, 55, 60 and 65, Grade 50 is one most common steel in applications where need more strength and less weight, use steel plate of this grade other than ordinary carbon steel will make the steel structure with same steel strength but lighter weight.

Differences Between ASTM A529 & A572 Hunker

Mechanically, A572 and A529 are very similar. A572 has an ultimate tensile or breaking strength of 60,200 pounds per square inch, a tensile yield strength of 42,100 psi and a shear modulus of 11,600 ksi. A529 possesses an ultimate tensile strength of 72,500 psi, a tensile yield strength of 42,100 psi and a shear modulus of 11,600 ksi.

A36 (Grade 50) versus A572 Gr 50 - Structural engineering

In looking at the AISC Manual, the tensile strength for A36 steel varies from 58-80 ksi. Further, the yield strength is specified as 36 ksi. In some limited research, it appears as though the tensile strength variation is a result of temperature and strain rate, although I can't find anything definitive.

Cold Rolled 1018 vs A572 gr 50

Jan 31, 2005 · Hello All, I'm in the middle of purchasing materials for use in making built-up beams in which the end service is frames for a metal building. These frames are engineered to be made from carbon steel with a minimum yield strength of 50 KSI. We typically use A572 grade 50 and sometimes use "A36 modified" or A36 material that has a 50 KSI min yield or greater.

Selecting Filler MetalsMatching Strength Criteria

a match of both yield and tensile strength is improbable. However, for higher strength steels, the yield-to-ten-sile ratio typically approaches the val-ues for welds and provides for a closer match of both the yield and tensile strengths. Table 3 shows the average yield-to-tensile ratio for all the base metals contained in Groups I and III
